Visits Abroad

  • Visited on invitation by the Society for Education, Music and Psychology research (SEMPRE) to present my latest research in Indian music, for a 2-day international conference that started on March 24, at the Leeds University. My visit was funded by the hosts through the SEMPRE conference award.
  • Invited to France by the French embassy in India to experience the French education system for around a fortnight. Visited universities like Paris 1, 2, and 3 and other institutions in Lyon, and Grenoble, among others in the French Alps region.
  • Paper invited on music iconography by (Dr) Alan Davison coordinator, research & postgraduates Department of Music University of Otago, New Zealand for book to be published in 2010. NOT VISITED.

Pending International Conference

Paper on 'Examining Avartan in Khayal' has been selected at the international conference by Indian musicological society at the National Center for Performing Arts, Mumbai to be held in January 2011.

Pending Visit Abroad

The ESSEC Business School, France has invited me to deliver a lecture demonstration on Indian musicology with reference to India's cultural milieu; details of the visit are being worked out. ESSEC stands between 4th and 8th in world business school ratings for different courses it runs.

Last Academic Engagement

  1. Presented Public Lecture Demonstration in Pune on Empirical Musicology - June 2010
  2. Presented new research on Indian art music at the Society for Music, Psychology and Education (SEMPRE), University of London
  3. From August 14, 2008-August 2009, post-doctoral research fellowship award by National Film Archives of India, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India for one year. Name of project was 'Semeiosis of Music in Ghatak's Select Films' and has been completed and submitted.

Academic Work

  • Spoke as invited member for panel discussion on civic administration, in international conference held on Oct 31- and Nov 1, 2009 organised by a Sweden India group funded by UNDP. Other panelist with me was Ramnath Jha (IAS, Former Municipal Commissioner, Pune)
  • Was appointed panel member as external advisor for setting up collaborative graduate programme in Journalism by the University of Central Lancashire in 2006 with an Indian institute.
  • Presented full conference paper on connection between Tantra and Dhrupad Music at International Indology Conference, held in February 2007 in Goa, India.
  • Presented paper in Indian Principal's Association (National level), executive development programme on 'Role of Aesthetics in Education' in May 2006.
  • Delivered workshop at the department of mass communication on 'Basics of Indian classical music and its application in different video formats.'
  • Two papers presented in seminars sponsored by Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) and Asian Media Information and Communication Centre - India in 2004 & 2005.
  • Joint editor for English book project titled 'Open Forum on Hindustani Music' funded by Indian government's Sangeet Natak Akademi, which started in 2002 and is expected to be completed by 2010. All my inputs have already been given.
  • Evaluated project proposal dealing with history of north Indian classical music in North Maharashtra and Karnataka sent to me by Ford Foundation funded India Foundation for the Arts (Bangalore) in 2002.
  • Participated as advisor for Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) in its journalism syllabus design committee in July 2008.

Art Activities

  1. Organised Telefilm Festival from Bangladesh to start from 12-10-2010 under OneAsia as part of cross cultural communication project.
  2. Organised successfully 3-hour classical vocal music programme by Shrinivas Joshi (son of Pandit Bhimsen Joshi) titled 'Music for Environment' of 10-10-2010.
  3. Delivered a lecture-demonstration on raga-qualia in Pune, organised by Vijnan Bharati on June 1, 2010
  4. Founder president of society in Pune called 'OneAsia' to enhance cultural communication within Asian countries through the arts, registered with the government of India in April 2006.
  5. Founded Indian classical music circle called 'Vazebua Punyatithi Samaroha Samity' in Pune in 2000 which got extensive news coverage and held several vocal music and dance performances. He has also performed in these concerts.
  6. Music lecture demonstrations with reference to Indian cultural milieu for foreign audiences at the Tata Management Training Centre, Pune as part of management training.
  7. Vocal music performances and training students.
  8. Teaching groups learning Bengali language, the songs of Kazi Nazrul Islam in Pune
  9. Dnyan Prabodhini produced children's educational CD in which undersigned has described in 13 minutes Indian art music.

Work Experience

18-years journalistic experience with focus on crime & investigative reporting. I was the editor of Education Times, The Times of India Pune for 7 years. Taught crime reporting, investigative journalism, current affairs, feature writing, and editing for 10 years as visiting faculty at various institutes in Pune and at the university level; Ranade institute and department of communication studies, university of Pune.

Taken several workshops on use of music in Films & Television at FTII and department communication studies university of Pune in addition to above above activities.
