Mousumi Talukdar (Rampur-Seni Gharana)

Born in a family of music, Mousumi started learning classical vocal music at a very tender age from her father Shri Phakir Chakraborty, a disciple of great Sarangi maestro Late Ustad Sagiruddin Khan of Delhi Gharana. She had her further talims from Ustadji directly till his demise in 1993. Thereafter, she is under regular tutelage of Pandit Samaresh Chawdhury, a distinguished vocalist of Rampur-Seni Gharana and disciple of Bharat-ratna Pandit Ravishankarji. A very promising disciple of Pandit Chawdhury, Mousumi is commited to the art of Indian music. She is also fortunate enough to receive guidance & blessings from great Samvadini maestro and vocalist Pandit Monohar Chimote. She is now stationed at Mumbai.


  • A 1st class 1st Hons Graduate in Music from Acharya Binova Bhave University, Mousumi is a recipient of National Scholarship from Human Resource Department, Govt of India in 1998-2000.
  • Mousumi is the First prize winner in Radio Music competition (All India basis) in KHEYAL in 1998 and gave a brilliant performance in prize winning ceremony held before invited audience at Gwalior.
  • The prestigious "Navras Award" from Navras record company, Mumbai has been awarded to her in 1999.
  • She has also been honoured by "Sanskar Bharati" in 1999.
  • She is a regular performer of All India Radio Mumbai (B-high) in kheyal.


She has performed at many music concerts in the country and some of them are -

  • Salt lake city Music Conference, Navrang Music Concert, Concert of Sangeet Piyasi, Uttarpara Music Festival at Kolkata
  • Music concert of Swar Sadhana, Concert by "Sangaat" & "Saptak" at Mumbai.
