Pt. Govind Rotti hails from north Karnataka, which has produced many distinguished stalwarts such as Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur, Pt. Gangubai Hangal, and Pt. Basavraj Rajguru. Born into a family of musicians, Govind Rotti was introduced to music at a very early age. Being a third generation of music in the family, young Rotti’s passion for music started at a very early age. Govind Rotti had his individual initial training from his father Late Pt. Shrinivas Rotti who was a versatile Hindustani musician. Since his father was a close friend of pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Mr. Rotti naturally had a well known close relationship with Pt. Bhimsen Joshi. Later on this relationship turned up to Guru-Shishya relationship and Shri Govind Rotti had the privilege of learning at the feet of Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, the doyen of Kirana Gharana. Shri Govind Rotti has given vocal support to Panditji several times at many concerts.
Pt. Govind Rotti had been an All India Radio artiste at Dharwad and has toured extensively all over India and has performed with Pt. Bhimsen Joshi in several concerts. Being awarded as ‘Gayana Chatura’, he has received several awards and accolades to his credit. He is admired for his sonorous voice and the emotions he throws into his performances.
Sri Govind Rotti, the unique voice Sculptor: His disciples are those fortunate a lot in this contemporary world of music. There are few scholars like him who impart devotion for music along with the actual knowledge of it. Each of his classes is a concert in itself. The pupils are masked out from the tangible world and transported into the heavenly world of music while in the class. Each class is a journey into the eternal world of sanctity of the pure art. As an over simplification, he is adored by his unique way of teaching through experimental voice control and swara gyan rather than going through the usual routine of teaching ragas. His students are indebted to him for their lifetime.
