Soumalya Chakraborty

Soumalya Chakraborty born in a musical family initiated his early grooming of Hindustani Classical music on vocal from his father Shri Sajal Chakraborty .Later he took keen interest on Instrumental Music -Sitar being initially trained by Shri Harashankar Bhattacharya. After that he was fortunate to be the direct disciple of Sitar Maestro Pandit Kushal Das,torch bearer of Maihar Gharana which he has been continuing.

Apart from music, Soumalya also did well in his academic career.He is a graduate in accountancy.

Soumalya is a upcoming performer of India.He has performed throughout West Bengal and outside.He is a member of CCMA(Calcutta Cine Musicians Association).Besides being a complete Indian Classical sitar player Soumalya is equally capable of playing Bhajans,Semi classical Bengali and Hindi songs,Devotional songs and Rabindrasangeet.He has assisted many renouwned artists in recording.He is a regular artist in All India Radio.

  • Got the title 'Sangeet Prabhakar' from prachin kala kendra chandigarh in 2009.
  • Receiver of national scolarship from ministry of culture in  2006-2007.
  • Graded 1st in all india radio competition  in classical music in 2006 .
  • Got the 'sangeet bisharad' title from prachin kala kendra chandigarh 1n  2005.
  • Stood 2nd in dover  lane  music  competition  in  indian classical instrumental  music in 2001
  • Stood 2nd  in intercollegiate    competition in  2001.
  •  Former  scholar   of  itc, sangeet research academy.
