A Dancer Teacher and Choreographer
Sovanabrata Sircar is an epoch-making illustrious Classical Manipuri Dancer, Choreographer. He is disciple of well-known exponent Guru Bipin Singh & Kalavati Devi. Sovanabrata took his Diploma in Manipuri & Kathakali Dance from Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan. He has already join many workshops regarding the Kathak, Chhau & Manipuri Classical Dance on rapport of Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, State Music Academy, West Bengal and West Bengal Dance Group Federation.
At present Sovanabrata gives performances, while teaching and Choreographing as well. His Creative bent of mind has attracted his to words experimental productions and he has received a production grant from Ministry of Tourism & Culture, Govt. of India, for the production "SHAKUNTALAM" ... it's inner meaning .... for the year of 2003-2004 ------------- a fusion of Manipuri & Kathakali Dance, based on Rabindranath Tagore's song.
Training & Guidance
Sovanabrata has comprehensive training as Classical & Semi-classical dance style of India. He has trained under
the guidance of Sj. Chittaranjan Dasgupta, Smt. Arti Acharya and Smt. Sushmita Mishra(kathak), Prof. Kalamandalam T. Shankar Narayanan(kathakali), Guru Shyama Charan Pati & Guru Tapan Pattanayek(chhau), Guru Ranjeet Adhikary Sharma(manipuri), and trained intensively 'Thang-Ta' (Martial art of Manipur) under the supervision of Guru Ranjeet Chingtham(manipur) & Ms. Poushali Chatterjee(Kolkata). He has imbibed the finer nuances of Manipuri dance and Mridang(Manipuri Dram) playing from the great Guru Bipin Singh.
Sovanabrata performed throughout Kerala in the programme of All India National Integration Camp by NYK. He has performed in some of the important ones are Uday Shankar Festival(Kolkata), Swami Haridas Sammelan(Vrindaban), Konarak Festival (Orissa), Daman Festival(organized by the West Zone Cultural Centre), Sarad Baivab Festival(chennai), Spring Festival(organized by the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre), Dance Drama Festival(organized by the West Bengal Dance Group Federation & West Bengal State Music Academy), Nimapara Mahotsav (Orissa), Rabindra Janmotsav(organized by the Govt. of West Bengal), Kazi Najrul Islam Centenary (organized by the Govt. of West Bengal & Impresario India at India Habitat Centre, Delhi) and many other dance festival organized by the various state Govts. He also participated in many TV progarmme.
