H. B. Sahana

Twenty one-year-old Sahana showed keen interest in the classical dance form of Bharatanatyam at a young age. She has been training at Ganesa Natyalaya, Delhi, under the renowned Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan for the last twelve years in the Tanjavur style of Bharatanatyam. She has performed widely as a solo performer and received critical acclaim for the same. She is also a member of her guru's troupe and has danced at major festivals both in India and abroad. She is a scholarship holder from the Sahitya Kala Parishad and is a student of Delhi University, pursuing a Masters Degree in Mathematics. She completed her Honors degree in Mathematics from Lady Sri Ram College.

Sahana did her schooling from DPS RK Puram and has a brilliant academic record. She has scored in the top 0.1 % of successful candidates in both the X and XII board exams and has also been awarded a gold medal by her school for 8 consecutive years of academic excellence. She was elected to be the secretary of the Students Council and was vice captain of the school volleyball team for two years.

Sahanas' other interests include public speaking, social service (under the NSS scheme of LSR college), embroidery, reading, photography and traveling. She was on both the classical and choreography dance teams in her college. She has won many prizes in intercollegiate and national level dance competitions. She has been awarded the Anupama Dua scholarship for academic excellence at the undergraduate level, an award for meritorious contribution to classical dance by her college and the South Campus endowment scholarship for her Master's programme.

Sahana is also on the dance faculty of Ganesa Natyalaya - the school set up by her guru, and takes classes there twice a week. For her, dance is a sacred means of expressing herself and will always be an essential part of her. She hopes to strike a harmonious balance between her passion for dance and her commitment to academics.
