Chandreyee Basu Thakur [Mohiniattam Exponent]

Chandreyee started taking formal lessons in dance at the tender age of four years from Guru Shri Shanti Bose, one of the most renowned disciples of the Late Shri Uday Shankar and a top ranking performer of India. She started learning Indian Classical Dance (Bhratanatyam) under the tutelage of Guru Smt. Thankamani Kutty of Kalmandalam, Calcutta from 1981. She specialized in Bharatanatyam as well as Mohiniattam and continues her rigorous practice even today. Besides she had been receiving training in Folk Dances as well as other forms of dancing and had been performing regularly at different places.

Incidentally, she is an educationist at the prestigious Modern High School for Girls, Kolkata where additionally she trains students in Contemporary dance besides choreographing, directing, dress designing, and organizing other aspects of a show relating to dance or dance dramas for the past twelve years. She has also performed, conducted several workshops in various parts of India and abroad.

Training in Dance

Specialized in Bharatanatyam, Mohiniattam, Folk, Creative and Rabindrik dance forms at Kalamandalam, Kolkata for over 29 years besides Choreography and still continuing. Learning Contemporary dance styles from Rythmosaic School of Music and Dance.

  • Performed Rituranga based on Tagore's songs on Bengal's seasons in both Bharatanatyam and Mohiniattam style (May 2010).

Honours

  • Participated in Bharatanatyam Dance program organized by Paschim Banga Rajya Sangeet Academy, Information and Cultural Affairs Department (Government of West Bengal)
  • Performed before His Royal Highness Prince Edward of United Kingdom at Calcutta for International Award Ceremony of Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme (DEAS) during his maiden visit to Calcutta in 1993
