Aarthi Shankar [Bharatnatyam Exponent]

Aarthi Shankar personifies a rare combination of talent, beauty and perseverance. Trained under one of India's eminent Bharatanatyam exponents, 'Kalaimamani' Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan (awardee of Padmashri), Aarthi herself is the Director of Lalit Kala Nrityalaya - an institution for classical dance and music. She belongs to the fourth generation of the family of Guru Smt Lalita of Saraswati Gana Nilayam, Chennai.

Her Bharatanatyam is extensive which she proves in her command over the abstract and narrative aspects of the dance. True to her youth and dynamism, Aarthi shows keen interest in new methods of choreography and interpretations.

She exudes a blend of intellect and intuition coupled with grace and vitality. On stage Aarthi holds the audience spell bound and has been widely appreciated for her sensitive performances. She radiates a pleasant personality and shares with the audience the happiness she derives from her dance.

Her flair for investing all that she does, be it pure Nritta or Abhinaya .. with a touch of aesthetics and total dedication has made Aarthi an artiste par excellence.

Aarthi believes that even in this modern world where everything can be explained there remain a few unsolved mysteries and marvels, which she seeks to explain through her dance. Dance gives her spiritual energy and is a sign of hope by God.
